Where exactly is Ride N Rest Campground, and how far is it from downtown Sturgis?
We're on State Highway 79 just outside downtown Sturgis, about one mile north of Highway 34. That puts you minutes from Main Street and the rally action, but far enough out that you can actually sleep. Highway 79 also makes an easy launch point for rides toward Bear Butte, Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon and the rest of the Black Hills without fighting downtown traffic first.
What kinds of lodging do you have, and how do I pick between tent, RV and cabin?
We have shaded tent and primitive sites, dry camping, more than 50 full-hookup RV sites, deluxe climate-controlled cabins, and a 4-bedroom Rally House. Tent sites suit riders traveling light who don't mind August heat. RV sites work for rigs of many sizes needing electric, water and sewer. Cabins give you air conditioning and a real bed. The Rally House suits a whole group under one roof.
Do your RV sites have full hookups, including sewer?
Yes. We have more than 50 full-hookup sites with electric, water and sewer, and we can accommodate rigs of many sizes. That means no hunting for a dump station mid-week during the rally. When you arrive, get level first, then connect power, water and sewer in that order, and leave your hoses and cords clear of the road so neighbors and motorcycles have room to pass.
How much does it cost to stay during the Sturgis Rally?
Rates depend on what you book and when. Rally week pricing differs from the rest of the season, and a tent site, a full-hookup RV site, a cabin and the Rally House are all priced differently. The most accurate answer comes from contacting us directly with your dates, party size and rig or tent details, and we'll tell you exactly what's available and what it costs.
Can I book the Rally House for a group of riders?
Yes. The Rally House has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a garage, a full kitchen, a family room and laundry, so a group can spread out, cook, wash riding gear and park bikes under cover. It's a popular option for rally week, so reach out early with your dates and headcount. Book it as one group with one point of contact rather than everyone calling separately.
How far ahead do I need to reserve for rally week?
As early as you reasonably can. Sturgis fills up, and the cabins and Rally House are limited in number, so those go first. Tent and dry camping sites tend to have more flexibility, but we'd still rather hear from you months out than days out. If you're planning your first rally, lock in lodging before you book flights or plan the rest of the trip.
What are the restrooms and showers like?
We call ours the cleanest shower house in the area, and we mean it. After a hot day of riding gravel, dust and highway miles, a good shower is not a small thing. Tent and dry campers use the same shower house as everyone else, so you don't need hookups to get clean. Restrooms are on site and maintained throughout the day during rally week.
Is food available at the campground, or do I need to go into town?
You don't have to ride anywhere for a meal. We serve breakfast daily, and our World Famous Steak Dinners are a big part of why guests come back. That's especially handy during rally week when town restaurants are packed and parking is scarce. Plenty of guests eat here, then head into Sturgis or out on a ride without worrying about a dinner line.
What should I pack for tent camping here in August?
South Dakota Augusts run hot and dry with cool nights and occasional afternoon storms. Bring a tent with good ventilation, stakes that hold in hard ground, a light sleeping bag, plenty of water, sunscreen, and rain gear you can pack on the bike. Our tent sites are shaded, which helps a lot midday. A cooler, a headlamp and earplugs round it out. Laundry is available at the Rally House.
Which rides should I plan from here, and how long do they take?
Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road and Spearfish Canyon are the classics, and Highway 79 gets you toward all of them. Most riders do Needles and Iron Mountain together with Mount Rushmore as a full day, and Spearfish Canyon as a shorter half day. Deadwood and Bear Butte are quick trips from the campground. Devils Tower makes a longer day if you leave early.
